Ali Wong and Bill Hader have a lot in common, from their chosen professions to their shared experiences with divorce and coparenting. While Wong shares two daughters with her ex-husband, Justin Hakuta, Hader is the father of three girls with ex-wife Maggie Carey.
Wong announced her split from Hakuta in April 2022 but didn’t officially file for divorce until December 2023—a full year after sources told Page Six that Wong and Hader dated “very briefly” before an “amicable” split in December 2022. Two years later Wong, 43, and Hader, 47, hard-launched their rekindled relationship with a congratulatory kiss at the 2024 Golden Globes. Aww.
Here’s a complete timeline of Ali Wong and Bill Hader’s dating history, with most recent first.
January 7, 2026: After two years together, Ali Wong and Bill Hader break up. People confirmed the split on January 7, citing an exclusive source.
The cause of the couple’s demise, as ever in Hollywood, was their busy schedules. “It was too difficult to make the relationship work with Ali’s upcoming stand-up tour and Bill’s various film and TV projects this year,” People’s source relayed. “They’re focusing on their work and kids, while continuing to support and root for each other.”
The breakup is reportedly amicable, and the pair remain friends.
April 2025: During an interview with Conan O’Brien on the comedian’s podcast, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, Hader revealed the sweet gesture Wong made amid the 2025 LA wildfires, which rendered his home unlivable.
“It is a funny thing, Ali and I went today to just—literally, I had to shop for clothes,” Hader said, noting that his kids were concerned because he was “living in his pajamas.”
“And it was very sweet. She was like, ‘Let’s go get you some jeans.’”
February 8, 2025: The couple makes their official red-carpet debut at the Directors Guild Awards.
January 2025: Hader does not accompany Wong to the 2025 Golden Globes, though a source at the time tells People that Hader’s absence is due to a health issue. The same source clarifies that the relationship is still going strong.
October 2024: Wong’s new comedy special, Single Lady, hits Netflix. Though most of her anecdotes are about flings, she does reveal some information about how she got together with Hader. Apparently he messaged her the moment news of her divorce broke, saying that he had a huge crush on her and wanted her to be his girlfriend. She politely declined and hit the road for a tour of Europe but found ever-larger bouquets of flowers in her hotel rooms, all sent by Hader. After working through her post-divorce fling phase and one actual heartbreak, she fell in love again—with, as she says in the special, the guy who sent the flowers.
January 15, 2024: It’s become tradition at this point for Wong to not only win all the awards for her role as Amy Lau on Beef but for her to share a kiss with beau Hader before she ascends to the stage. At the 2024 Emmy Awards, she planted a kiss on her Barry actor-writer-star boyfriend (though as before, the couple did not walk the carpet together).

March 1, 2023: Wong opens up about her “unconventional divorce” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re really, really close; we’re best friends,” she tells THR after having played a game of pickleball with Hakuta that morning. “We’ve been through so much together. It’s a very unconventional divorce.”
In the same interview Wong teases new material about her post-divorce dating life. “I’m still workshopping it, but the bones are there and it came to me very fast,” she says. “This is the first hour I’m doing since I started where I’m single. I think we’re going to call it the Single Lady tour.”
December 8, 2022: Page Six reports that Hader and Wong dated for “at least two months” but are already over. “They’re no longer dating,” one source says. “They dated very briefly. They’re just super busy with things, but [the split] was certainly amicable. They’re certainly friends.”
