After looking typically stunning in a vintage red Balmain FW57 gown at the Golden Globes, Amal Clooney changed into a flirty minidress held together with oversized safety pins, a much edgier look than the often old-school Amal goes for. This is, after all, the woman who famously once showed up to the Globes in gloves she sewed herself.
A decade later, she returned alongside her husband George Clooney, who was nominated for his performance in Noah Baumbach’s Jay Kelly. Though the film didn’t take home any awards, it was enough to make Mr. and Mrs. Clooney the stars of Netflix’s after-party, where the human rights lawyer wore a Versace dress from the brand’s RTW Spring 2022 collection.
We suppose it could be considered a skirt and top held together with the pins, but as you can see from its appearance on the runway, this is the way you wear it. The shiny chain mail material and bright apple green shade give the whole look a decidedly 2000s vibe. Is anyone else reminded of the green Volkswagen New Beetle or any of the other lime-green must-haves of the era?
Interestingly, Clooney kept her hair and makeup the same from the red carpet all the way to the after-party, though she did swap out her earrings for a similar but less blinged-out pair. Her bombshell waves are slightly at odds with the youthful garment, though of course, it must be hard not to wear your hair down all the time when it looks like Amal’s.
If you’re looking to copy her ’fit, you might have some trouble. We couldn’t find the dress available at any of our usual go-tos, though it looks like a few copies of this outfit from the same collection are floating around:
But it won’t come cheap. One sold for $37k, another for $20k, but a size IT36 is currently available for a mere $14k on eBay. A steal.
