Ariana Grande married real estate agent Dalton Gomez in May 2021, but details about their relationship were few and far between.
In 2020 the singer said “Thank U, Next” to her past relationships and moved on following her high-profile romance with Pete Davidson. (She’d also had a very public relationship with the late rapper Mac Miller, so her desire for privacy makes sense.) Though she kept her romance with Gomez—director of the luxury estates division at the Aaron Kirman Group—hush-hush for months, she introduced him to the world in her “Stuck With U” music video before making things Instagram-official in June. Less than a presidential term later, they were completely over.
Let’s look back at their relationship history, starting with when they reportedly started dating at the beginning of the new year, just before the pandemic.
January 2020
According to People, the couple began dating in January, but Ariana Grande wanted to keep their relationship away from the spotlight after ending her engagement with Saturday Night Live star and New York native Pete Davidson in October 2018.
“They have been hanging out for a couple of months,” a source told the outlet at the time. “Ariana doesn’t want to do another public relationship, so she is trying to keep this one quiet, but she seems very happy with Dalton.”
February 2020
The pop star and former dancer are first spotted together in February, with TMZ publishing a pics of them kissing at Bar Louie in Northridge, California.
March 2020
The couple reportedly get closer while spending quarantine together at Grande’s Los Angeles home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Ariana is staying at home with friends. She is very serious about self-distancing and has been with the same group of people for days,” the source told People. “One of the people she is with right now is Dalton.”
At the time, fans also spot Gomez in Grande’s Instagram Stories.
May 2020
The pair make their first official appearance in Grande’s “Stuck With U” music video with Justin Bieber. At the very end of the clip, the two engage in some sweet PDA while slow-dancing to the romantic ballad.
June 2020
On June 25, Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez go Instagram-official after she shares a sweet selfie of them ahead of her 27th birthday. In the photo, Grande can be seen snuggling up next to her smiling beau. On June 27, Grande and Gomez share a kiss at her Midsommar-themed birthday party. (Both posts were deleted as of July 2023.)
August 2020
On August 7, Grande takes to Instagram to send love to her “baby” and “best friend” in a sweet, PDA-filled birthday Instagram post. In multiple videos, Gomez can be seen repeatedly pecking Grande on the cheek. Awwww. (The post has been deleted as of July 2023.)
December 2020
On December 20, Grande announces her engagement to Gomez. The pop star shares a series of photos via Instagram with her fiancé—including two of her stunning diamond ring—captioning the images, “forever n then some.” (The post has been deleted as of July 2023.)
April 2021
On April 3, Grande shares a series of romantic photos showcasing her and Gomez’s relationship on Instagram. “!!! my heart my person !!! thank u so much for being u,” she wrote in the caption. (The post has been deleted as of July 2023.)
Since moving out to L.A., the pair have stayed out of the spotlight, which seems to be intentional. “He likes keeping his relationship with Ari private,” a source told People in December 2020. “This phase of her life has been very quiet and uneventful in a good way.”
May 2021
“They got married!” A rep for Ariana Grande shares the news with People on May 17. “It was tiny and intimate—less than 20 people,” the rep continued. (This was in the midst of the pandemic, after all—they probably couldn’t have invited all their celeb friends even if they wanted to.) “The room was so happy and full of love. The couple and both families couldn’t be happier.”
The pair wed in a private ceremony at Grande’s Montecito home, per Vogue. The bride wore a Vera Wang Haute Couture gown for the ceremony and custom Giuseppe Zanotti platform heels. True to form, she styled her hair half up, half down for the occasion. Dalton Gomez wore a Tom Ford suit.
According to Vogue, the couple “knew very early in the planning process that they wanted to get married at home” in an intimate ceremony.

On June 26, Ariana Grande turns 28 and seems to celebrate with her husband and their…slinky? In a video posted to Instagram Stories on June 28 and captured by fan accounts, the pop star wears a plastic birthday tiara and hangs on her husband Dalton Gomez while he dangles a plastic toy. He gives her a kiss on the head, and she wrote on the video, “thankful for so much love.” Aww.

On August 7, just a few months after the pair celebrated their first wedding anniversary, Grande shared multiple Instagram Stories posts celebrating the 26th birthday of “my baby my husband my best friend.” In the first post, she wrote, “i love you infinitely.” In the second slide, she shared a black-and-white kissing photo.

July 16: Grande, still in London filming Wicked, attends the men’s Wimbledon final alongside costars Jonathan Bailey and Andrew Garfield. She wore a baseball cap, a gray Ralph Lauren set, black heels, and pearl earrings, but her engagement ring and wedding ring were noticeably absent from her fingers.
Grande’s empty fingers spark a lot of conversation about the status of her marriage. Was she indicating that her marriage is over? Or was she simply not wearing her rings that day? Looks like there’s no such thing as a coincidence: The following day it's reported that Ariana Grande and Dalton Gomez have called it quits.

July 17: TMZ reports that the couple is divorcing after two years of marriage and that they had been separated since January. The report suggested that the long distance put a strain on the relationship and that they tried and failed to reconcile in recent months. Soon after, People also confirmed the separation. A source told the outlet that they “have been quietly and lovingly working on their friendship.”
July 19: It appears that Grande has started wiping Gomez from her Instagram grid because the wedding photos that she posted in 2021 are no longer there. In addition to deleting the wedding photos, she removed a post she’d shared commemorating their two-year wedding anniversary in May, per Page Six. The outlet reports that while Gomez is mostly removed her ex from her account, there remains one selfie of the former couple in a carousel shared in November 2022, as well as a Valentine’s Day post, also from 2022.

July 20: What is this feeling, so sudden and new? According to People, sources confirm that Grande has recently started dating her Wicked costar Ethan Slater. “Ariana and Dalton separated in January. She and Ethan recently began dating, and he is separated from his wife,” the source says. Meanwhile, a source tells UsWeekly that “Ariana and Ethan have only recently begun seeing each other, but they have a lot of fun together and are enjoying each other’s company.”

July 21: A source tells People that Gomez “is very religious and was committed to making it work, but Ariana had moved on.”
September 18: As it became increasingly clear that there would be no reconciliation, it was just a matter of time until court proceedings started. On September 18, both Grande and Gomez file for divorce, and it seems like things will be over pretty quickly. Grande hired divorce lawyer to the stars Laura Wasser, and the pair had a prenup; TMZ reports that “Ariana will cut Dalton a check, and that will be that.” The filings cite February 20, 2023, as the date of their “separation.”
October 2023
October 7, 2023: Multiple publications report that Gomez and Grande have settled their divorce. According to TMZ, Gomez will receive $1,250,000 from Grande up front, as opposed to ongoing spousal support payments. Grande will also be on the hook for some of Gomez’s attorney fees, and the pair will split net proceeds from the sale of their LA home 50-50. “There is still a strong mutual love and respect between Ariana and Dalton and they wanted to make sure everything was done right in lockstep with one another,” a source told TMZ.
