Ariana Grande made quite the entrance on the Grammys 2020 red carpet. The singer, who was nominated for five awards this year including Album of the Year for Thank U, Next, arrived on the early side in a custom gray Giambattista Valli gown. She was accompanied by both of her parents, Joan Grande and Edward Butera.
The dress has serious princess vibes and took up a lot of space on the carpet. Grande accessorized it with elbow-length gloves and her signature high ponytail in a shade that’s much more blond than she’s been sporting lately. Ever the showman, the pop star gave a full performance on the carpet—ahead of the one she’d make onstage later in the evening.

Her fans were loving it all on Twitter, including her brother Frankie, who tweeted, “I’m crying! you look perfect my sister!!!!” “Break up with your girlfriend because i’m ariana grande bitch #GRAMMYs,” another fan tweeted, referencing the singer’s hit song.

As if that dress wasn't enough, Grande changed into a second gray gown before making her way into the Staples Center.
Grande’s, well, grand return to the Grammys comes after she skipped last year’s ceremony amid a bit of controversy. Back in February of last year, Grammys executive producer Ken Ehrlich said of Grande’s originally slated performance: “As it turned out, when we finally got to the point where we thought maybe it would work, she felt it was too late for her to pull something together for sure. And it’s too bad. She’s a great artist. And I’d love to get her in the show this year.”
Grande quickly responded at the time. “I’ve kept my mouth shut but now you’re lying about me. I can pull together a performance over night and you know that, Ken,” she said. “It was when my creativity and self expression was stifled by you, that I decided not to attend. I hope the show is exactly what you want it to be and more. I offered 3 different songs. It’s about collaboration. It’s about feeling supported,” she continued. “It’s about art and honesty. Not politics. Not doing favors or playing games. It’s just a game y’all…and i’m sorry but that’s not what music is to me.”
Luckily, she seems to have smoothed things over with the Recording Academy—and let everyone know what they missed last year.
