Most people lighten their hair for the summer and darken it come autumn. But not pop sensation and former Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande, who just did the opposite. One might even go as far as to say she said “thank u, next” to her brown hair. (Not me, though—I could never be so corny.)
On Wednesday, October 26, the pop star dropped her new blonde hair on her Instagram grid. The post is a big troll: Its caption reads, “new earrings.” The photo, which was shared sideways, is of Grande in profile. She’s wearing her newly blonde hair in a ponytail along with some pearl earrings.

The hair transformation is most likely for her role as Glinda the Good Witch in the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked, which was sort of confirmed by her colleagues.
Cynthia Erivo stars in the film as Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West. Erivo commented on the post, “Earrings are AMAZING!! 💚😏” The green heart is probably a reference to Elphaba, who has green skin.
Meanwhile, Wicked director Jon M. Chu commented, “Earrings look great!”
The first part of Wicked (it has been divided into two films to avoid cutting songs) is expected to arrive in theaters in December 2024, with the second part arriving in 2025.
“As we prepared this production over the last year, it became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of Wicked into a single film without doing some real damage to it,” Chu shared on Twitter in April. “As we tried to cut songs or trim characters, those decisions began to feel like fatal compromises to the source material that has entertained us all for so many years. So we decided to give ourselves a bigger canvas and make not just one Wicked movie but TWO!!!”
Thanks to Wicked, Ariana Grande is in her blonde era (again).
