If you’ve spent any time on hair TikTok, you’re likely familiar with the Beachwaver, the viral curling iron that rotates and purportedly cuts your styling time in half. That’s how I first heard about it…and then I just kept scrolling. That's not to say I wasn't interested—I was. But I had spent my entire adult life trying to curl my own hair and failing miserably. Why would this tool be different?
I wish I was kidding—or, at the very least, exaggerating—when I say I was incapable of using a curling iron. I had tried countless kinds of hot tools of varying barrel sizes, brands, and price points, and watched every beauty tutorial available online, and simply could not do it. Each miserable trial run ended sadder than the last; one day, while basking in the scent of my own burnt hair, I simply decided it was time to move on and pursue other dreams. Like getting a DryBar membership.
For years I depended on professional blowouts to grant me my beloved beach waves, extending each the look as long as I could until I had to wash my hair. This obviously wan't sustainable, however, so I eventually gave up on having my hair curled altogether. That is, until I met the Beachwaver.
I was first introduced to the Beachwaver when a stylist used it on my hair and offered to let me try a section. Too ashamed to admit my personal curling issues by declining, I grabbed the tool and hoped for the best. I guess I hoped really hard that day, because after clipping my hair, pressing the arrow button, and holding it in place for 10 seconds after it spun, I released my hair and was shocked to find it had formed a picture-perfect curl. Was she a witch? No. It was the Beachwaver! Instantly converted, I knew I needed to get my own. But then I worried: Would I be able to re-create this magic at home?
I'll spare you and skip to the good part: Yes, and I've successfully used the Beachwaver to create effortless yet structured beach waves every time I've styled my hair since. What's more, it's so easy to use it takes me only 15 to 20 minutes to style my whole head. Talk about an upgrade!
I still can't pinpoint exactly why nonrevolving curling irons are so hard for me to use, but the Beachwaver clearly renders any of that irrelevant. To use the Beachwaver, you simply clamp a section of dry hair at the end, press the arrow button facing away from the face, and let the hair wrap as it revolves (until it nearly reaches your head; don't burn yourself!), then pause for 10 seconds or so. Release the wrapped hair, et voilà: It's curled!

The Beachwaver may be extremely user-friendly, but that doesn't mean it compromises in quality. Beachwaver-styled curls stay put: My hair maintains its waves all day, night, and—if I sleep in a low ponytail—even through the next morning. It's beach waves for days.

At $149, the S1 Beachwaver is the same price as (or slightly cheaper than) most high-end curling irons on the market, but it makes the curling process significantly less complicated and time-intensive. I think it's beyond worth it. That said, Beachwaver does carry a range of tools depending on your needs: The S series, which comes in ¾-inch, 1-inch, and 1¼-inch (I have the 1-inch), has two speed options, and reaches any temperature from 290ºF to 410ºF. The B Series, on the other hand, still rotates, but does so only at one speed, comes in 1-inch only, has three heat settings: 290ºF, 350ºF, and 410ºF. The B Series costs $99.
If you love defined waves, textured waves, Old Hollywood waves, mermaid waves, or any curl or wave in between, consider this your sign to get the Beachwaver. As for me, I'm loving my new beach-waved life—so much so I'm getting my mom her own. Like me, she “can't” use curling irons (at least I know where I got it from), and I very much look forward to proving her wrong.
