At the Glamour office in New York City, our editors are constantly discussing the latest perfume trends and launches. When the new Ceremonia Guava Perfume Hair & Body Mist landed on our radar, we all agreed on one thing: The guava scent would easily become the summer fragrance of the year.
It seems like food-forward scents are everywhere right now, but guava really stuck with me. My family is from Ecuador, so I grew up with guava pastries, particularly pastelitos (guava and cheese empanadas), so the scent always reminds me of my childhood. Apart from the fruity notes, the bottle also just looks gorgeous. The bright color, large statement cap made of wood (similar to the Perfume de la Tierra bottle), and shimmery pigments add a touch of joy to my vanity.
Ceremonia Guava Perfume Hair & Body Mist review
A warm floral scent with notes of guava, violet, and vetiver, Ceremonia Guava Perfume Hair & Body Mist leaves your skin with a beautiful gold shimmer for a subtle glow. The best part? It’s alcohol-free, so it won’t dry out your strands or skin.
I’ve been testing this body mist for the past two months (it officially became available April 1), and it’s been a go-to in my hair and body care routine. But I’m not the only one who’s in love with this scent.
Glamour commerce writer Alanna Martine Kilkeary is also a fan, and says it simply screams summer. “There’s so much to love about this sweet-smelling mist—it has warm notes of guava, violet, and vetiver for a truly tropical experience. It takes just a few spritzes to make you feel like you’re on a beach (with a coconut drink in hand). And it surprises you with a shimmering, sparkly finish that adds glow to your arms and décolletage. This one really makes you feel like you’re sparkling, inside and out.”
For Glamour senior beauty editor Ariana Yaptangco, it’s all about the lightweight finish and glowing results. “During the summer, I try to wear scents that feel fresh and like a second skin—the last thing I want to wear is something heavy or offensive,” she says. “Ceremonia’s new fruity mist is so delicious and wears beautifully. The tart guava and peach notes are grounded by heady violet, vetiver, and black tea, striking the perfect balance between sweet and musky. Best of all is the sophisticated shimmer it leaves on your skin and hair. Some body glitters can feel a little kiddish (the particles can be too chunky and too reflective), but this wears like golden-hour sunlight in a bottle.”
Glamour beauty contributor Catharine Malzahn likes that the scent is sweet, but not at all headachy, and instantly transports her to the tropics. “Top notes like guava and peach make it initially fruity, while bottom notes like brown sugar leave it sweet for a multilayered fragrance experience. The chic pink bottle with a dark-stained wood lid adds to the tropical experience and looks gorgeous on my vanity. A fun bonus: a lightly shimmery finish that lets light reflect off your skin and hair after you spray it. It’s totally summery in every way.”
As for me, I gravitate toward scents that are light, romantic, and evoke a memory (its the Pisces in me), and this Ceremonia mist checks all those boxes. Plus, as a fragrance-obsessed editor I love the art of finding really cool bottles, and this one is a nice addition to my collection. I will say that the scent isn’t as long-lasting compared to a traditional perfume, so you will have to reapply.
About the brand
Ceremonia is a Latinx hair care brand founded by Babba Rivera. The brand is known for its best-selling Guava collection, which includes a leave-in conditioner (which we tested and recommend for curly hair), shampoo, conditioner, hair mask, heat-protectant spray, and more.
If you’re someone who shops sustainably, you’ll be happy to know that Ceremonia uses natural ingredients sourced from Latin America to create their toxin-free hair care products. Their products are also free of silicones, parabens, sulfates, and phthalates.
My final thoughts
It’s June and the temperatures are (finally!) reaching 90 degrees, so you know I’ll be reaching for this shimmery hair and body mist. The fruity, fresh scent is ideal for the summer, and apart from it being beloved by Glamour editors, it’s a Latinx women-owned brand with a commitment to sustainability and naturally sourced ingredients. Trust me, you won’t regret adding this to your perfume collection.
