Between her TikTok following of 118 million, a clothing line, and a reality TV show on the horizon, it's safe to say that Charli D'Amelio has mastered the art of the hustle. She's so good at multitasking, in fact, that she takes an interview with me while recovering from her wisdom teeth surgery. Aside from the fact that she's taking press calls while on bedrest, the 17-year-old is as close to a regular teenager as it gets—she's fun and bubbly while she chats about her must-have snacks, adventures in failed DIY haircuts, and even her retainers.
D'Amelio has worn Invisalign aligners for months, and launched a case in partnership with the brand this week. “The only way I can really word it is I wish I had gotten it sooner,” she says of the aligners. “It's been so easy and so painless—and when I say painless, I mean, I-was-able-to-wear-them-after-my-wisdom-teeth-surgery painless. It's one of the easiest parts of my routine.”
Her self-care doesn't stop at her teeth though. Below, D'Amelio shares the beauty tricks she swears by, the products she can't live without, and her favorite way to take a moment to reset. Read on for her answers to Glamour's Big Beauty Questions.

Glamour: What’s one beauty trend you’re obsessed with right now?
Charli D’Amelio: Probably curtain bangs! I tried to cut them on myself—that did not work. I do not recommend. Go get them done professionally! But I love them, I think they're the absolute cutest things. I've been trying to learn how to style them for probably months now. I still haven't gotten the hang of it, but I'm learning.
What’s a beauty rule you swear by?
For me, I feel like blush can be the one thing you need. Gosh, it saved my life. It makes me look so awake and so full of life, and it makes my freckles pop. My favorite is the Morphe 2 Perk Up Cheek & Lip Color in Rosie Wishes. I think it's the perfect color.
What about a beauty rule you think is B.S.?
There's something about eyeliner—just because I'm still learning how to do it. I feel like it's too complicated. With my eye shape, it just never looks right. That's why I literally just put eye shadow under my eyes with a little stick shadow. When other people do it on me, it looks great, so it must be a me problem.
You can use only three beauty products for the rest of your life. What are they and why?
Oh my goodness, that's hard. I think it would be a blush, an eyelash curler, and probably a lip gloss. I like the Morphe 2 Lip Oil in Flutter, since it has a little bit of a red tone, which is pretty. I have very dark eyelashes, so I don't technically need mascara for them to really pop, which is super awesome, I'm very thankful for that—my Italian genes coming through. When I curl my eyelashes, they are very long as well, thanks to castor oil, which is another tip: Use castor oil on your eyelashes and they grow.
You’re crazy busy—what’s your favorite way to take a moment just for yourself?
Honestly, right before I have to do anything important like a red carpet, I always go to my room and pack a bag. And that's usually my time to myself, where I can just stop thinking about anything else. I can just really be with my thoughts, because no one wants to come with you when you're packing a bag. I like anytime I can just be by myself with my thoughts.
What’s the best beauty advice you learned from your mom or your sister?
My mom taught me how to do all of my makeup because I was a [dance] competition kid. No one wants to be doing a five-year-old's makeup at six in the morning, so I learned how to do my own makeup very quickly. I really learned from watching her do mine and watching her do her own—I would go to her vanity and learn how to use all of her products, and she took me to Bed Bath and Beyond. I was like “Mom, I’m starting middle school, I need my own products that aren't my dance makeup.” And she got me some, and she was very helpful and never let me leave the house looking crazy. So I'm very thankful for her.

Are there any tips or tricks you used to do for your dance makeup that you still do today?
I feel like learning how to do lipstick for my lip shape was important, because everyone's lip shape is different. What you do on your Cupid's bow can change your whole look, and I feel like that's something that I've learned. Mine is a little bit more pointed, so I'll make it straight across. I think it looks supercute either way, but I've learned to do it in a bunch of different ways. And also learning how to put false eyelashes on at a very young age was very helpful.
What’s your favorite perfume and why?
I have a bunch of them. I've actually been very into perfumes lately. I do have some custom ones where I'm the only person that has them, so that's really cool. But I like a very fresh scent, I think that's very pretty. I like it when it just smells clean and fresh with little hints of other things.
What’s the last TikTok rabbit hole you got sucked down?
Let me check with my last liked videos, because I go through different things all the time. Oh, it was other people getting their wisdom teeth taken out! People got their wisdom teeth taken out at the same time as I did, and I thought it was so funny. There was, like, five people on my For You page that were dueting my wisdom teeth video I posted. They were like, “No way! I just got it out too,” so I thought that was funny.

What’s your go-to getting-ready music?
I actually don't listen to music as much when I get ready as I watch TV. I just finished Criminal Minds for the second time—I was watching that every second of every day. I also watched Lucifer, which was a pretty good show, and the Travis Scott documentary for the second time—that was really good.
You have $20 and you’re let loose in the drugstore. What are you buying?
I love a CVS because I will just go crazy on snacks. My favorite is Takis, and a Sprite. I love Sprite.
Who are the women inspiring you the most right now?
All of the women in my family. My mom has three sisters, and my dad has a sister, so there's a bunch of women in my family. We always grew up with more women than men, so I've always had a lot of very powerful role models. Even with a lot of the brands that I work with, there's so many women running the show, which is so awesome. I've obviously had my not so great experiences with people who didn't respect me because I was either young or because I'm a little girl in their eyes, but I think I've learned so much from the people that I work with and that are in my everyday life to really make me confident. Honestly, my sister and my friends too—Maddi [Monroe] has given me so much confidence and really taught me how to believe in myself. And Avani [Gregg]—she's just like me, a little bit more on the shy side. So it's really cool to see how we can all be super confident together in our own ways.
If you could change one thing about beauty perceptions on social media, what would you want to change?
I would want to change the idea that everyone online looks perfect 24/7. Because that is not true. I wish people posted more about maybe some of the things that aren't so picture-perfect.
