All you’re missing from your fall-winter wardrobe is a rich burgundy bag. Just ask Dakota Johnson, Leslie Bibb, and Sabrina Carpenter.
We all know a wool coat is the unsung hero of fall-winter wardrobes, while knee-high boots are the standout purchase of the season, but their their powers combined have created an unfailing fall uniform beloved by celebrities and street-style experts alike. More likely than not, you’ve already found versions of both to suit your needs this fall. (If not, allow me to direct you this way and this way).
But what if I told you there was a way to make this quiet luxury combo look even more rich? Enter the burgundy bag, which is already trending for winter 2026.
It’s a classic for a reason.

On November 12, Johnson stepped out in Los Angeles wearing extremely luxe takes on all three pieces, including a chocolate wool trench coat like a robe, tying the belt in a knot around her waist and letting the buckle hang effortlessly. She left what’s underneath the dress to our imagination, only allowing us to see the black knee-high boots beyond the coat’s hem and her rare burgundy Dalia baguette bag by The Row.
The burgundy bag popped against the cool-toned coat while complementing the 36-year-old actor’s rosy beauty look and instantly inspiring my next going-out ’fit. The very next day, Leslie Bibb proved the very same formula can by applied to the work week.
On November 13 Bibb was photographed in New York City wearing a long gray duster and charcoal knit set, which she paired with brown croc-embossed boots—almost like an inverse of Johnson’s evening look. However, she also had the idea to add a burgundy bag into the mix, opting for a big slouchy hobo bag that could easily store her everyday essentials and a pair of subway flats.
The point is, a burgundy bag is the perfect pop of color to add to pair with your favorite coat and boots, whether you’re heading into the office or out for date night.
Heck, if you want to go Goldilocks and the three bears on this trend, you can even choose a mid-size crossbody, like Sabrina Carpenter, who paired a burgundy Celine bag with her black Aritzia Slouch coat, brown boots, loose jeans, and oversized plaid scarf. Consider this the farmer’s market version of the look.
So which size burgundy bag is just right? That’s up to you.
