Dyson (Yes, the Vacuum Company!) Is Launching a $400 Hair-Dryer: Here’s 5 Things You Need to Know


You already know Dyson for its state-of-the-art vacuums and humidifiers—but now, it's about to become an even bigger household name. Today, the company unveiled its newest project (worth something to the effect of $71 million, NBD) and it has nothing to do with cleaning. The newly announced Dyson Supersonic is its first-ever hair-dryer.

Why, you might reasonably ask, would a vacuum company care that much about your hair? It's simple, according to James Dyson, the company's founder: “Hair-dryers can be heavy, inefficient, and make a racket." And the more obvious: Women really care about their hair. "We realized they can also cause extreme heat damage to hair," he said in a press release. "So I challenged Dyson engineers to really understand the science of hair and develop our version of a hair-dryer, which we think solves these problems.”
