Another day, another bob haircut—this time courtesy of Elle Fanning.
Just a few weeks after Penélope Cruz and Selena Gomez debuted midi bobs, which many stylists consider to be the haircut of the year, the actor debuted her own take on the trending midlength bob. Clearly, this buzzy chop really is the next big thing.
Fanning's new hair is courtesy of celebrity hairstylist Jenda Alcorn, who, it appears, cut several inches off for her dramatic debut. Previously, Fanning's hair was so long it reached more than halfway down her back, so this wasn't just any old trim. It was—and is—a lifestyle, and her response could not be more appropriate. Or relatable.
Because, sure, Fanning is very famous—she's pretty much been A-list since she was eight years old—she and her stylist treating her new haircut exactly like we or our best friends would: as in, like a pretty big deal.
Both Alcorn and Fanning have posted several photos of the hair transformation to her Instagram grid and Stories, and she is so excited that she was been inspired to buy new clothes to go with it.

Fanning also posted several snapshots of her new cut to the grid, and then a few more to her Stories. Bringing in inspiration pictures is one of the best things you can do when requesting a haircut, so this is very much appreciated.

Fanning also posted a behind-the-scenes of her haircut in action to her Stories, and then a photo in which she's trying on new clothing in a dressing room. “New hair = shopping spree,” she wrote. See, I told you the whole thing was very relatable!
As for why this cut is trending? It's kind of the best of both worlds: Certainly short enough to fall into official bob as opposed to lob haircut territory, it's still long enough to graze one's shoulders and tie into a ponytail. Hence its name: the midi bob. (Think midi-length skirts.)
While this isn't the first midi bob we've seen, one thing is for sure: This won't be the last. Haircuts this chic can't—and shouldn't—stay secrets forever.
