Outlander was never going to go on forever, and yet somehow it feels as if it could. But Starz has made it clear that all good—in this case, great—things must come to an end, and season eight of the global hit will be its last.

That final season is only a few months away from premiering. Beginning in March 2026, the 10-episode season will last until May. And the closer we get to the premiere date, the more footage and information we get. That includes an exclusive first look at unit photography from the season that Glamour will reveal throughout this piece.

It’s been well over a year since the cast and crew filmed the series finale, but it won’t feel final until the credits roll on the last episode for showrunner and executive producer Matthew B. Roberts. “For me, a story isn’t truly complete until it airs—that’s when the full journey comes to fruition: from breaking the story in the writers’ room, through script, prep, production, editing, and post, all the way to the moment it reaches the audience,” he says. “Only then does it feel finished.”

Roberts, who says Outlander has “fundamentally transformed” his career, first joined the show as a writer-producer before becoming showrunner: “It’s been an extraordinarily long but deeply rewarding journey. Scotland has opened my heart in ways I never anticipated. And the family we’ve created, both onscreen and off, will remain with me for the rest of my life.”

The season-seven finale gave viewers quite a shock with the reveal that Claire and Jaime’s daughter, Faith, who was believed to have died in childbirth, actually lived and gave birth to a daughter of her own, Fannie. Roberts says “fans won’t have to wait long” to get answers when season eight premieres in March.

“When you leave a storyline hanging off a cliff, you owe the audience solid ground—and quickly,” he says. “But resolving the question is just the beginning. From there, so many tributaries branch away and wind back again throughout the season, until all of those emotional currents converge into something far more powerful than any single revelation. The answer matters, but what it unlocks matters more. And what it unlocks, I think, is the true magic of Outlander.

Roberts won’t reveal much more than that, but he does advise to look closely throughout the first-look images included in this story. “Everything in those images is there for a reason,” he says, cryptically. “Our fans are extraordinary detectives, and I have no doubt they’ll find the Easter eggs before we even have a chance to point them out. I wouldn’t dream of robbing them of that joy.”

Here's everything we know about Outlander season 8 ahead of the March premiere.

The first teaser trailers for Outlander season 8 are here

On December 25, Outlander dropped a surprise emotional teaser trailer. "Nothing can prepare you for how it ends,” Jamie says in the clip, which feels like a warning to fans as well.

Earlier this month, Starz released the final opening title sequence, performed by Academy Award winner and four-time Grammy winner Annie Lennox. “The Skye Boat Song” is a late-19th-century Jacobite lament that has become synonymous with Outlander since the series’ debut in 2014. Each season’s opening title sequences have been tailored by Emmy winner and series composer Bear McCreary, drawing inspiration from the upcoming storylines and locations.

As for what else we know about the upcoming season? The key art featuring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe as Jamie and Claire says, “Past. Present. Forever.” There’s also a teaser trailer. Take a look at both below.

If you recall, season seven ended with Jamie’s fateful decision to resign his Continental Army commission and return to Fraser’s Ridge with Claire. After an emotional family reunion, the MacKenzies needed to decide where and when to settle next, and a mind-blowing cliff-hanger left us questioning the true fate of Claire and Jamie’s first daughter, Faith.

As the final season begins, Jamie and Claire will find the war has followed them home to Fraser’s Ridge, now a thriving settlement. With new arrivals and changes made during their years away, the Frasers are confronted with the question of what they’re willing to sacrifice for the place they call home and, more importantly, what they would sacrifice to stay together. While the Frasers keep a united front against outside intruders, family secrets finally coming to light threaten to tear them apart from the inside. Although they’ve left the war for America’s freedom behind, their fight for Fraser’s Ridge has only just begun.

When the final season premieres, it will be available to stream weekly on Fridays only on the Starz app, Starz streaming, and on-demand platforms. Seasons one through seven are available now on the Starz app, Starz streaming, and on-demand platforms. And we have more seasons of the Outlander prequel, Blood of My Blood, to look forward to.

And here’s a video with Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser), Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Sophie Skelton (Brianna MacKenzie), Richard Rankin (Roger MacKenzie), and John Bell (Young Ian) reacting to the news of the show’s final season to help us deal with our grief (because let’s be honest, that’s what it is).

And now, back to rewatching seasons one through seven of Outlander and season one of Blood of My Blood…. We’ll update this post as more information becomes available. But one thing we know for sure: There will never be another couple like Claire and Jamie again.
