In March, JoJo became the unexpected pop queen of quarantine with “Chill (Stay In)”—a stay-at-home remix of her 2000s classic “Leave (Get Out).” This catchy, nostalgic reminder to social-distance turned out to be exactly what the internet needed, going viral with 4 million views and counting on TikTok. Now JoJo’s back with a full studio album called Good to Know, and her timing couldn’t be better. Pop music can help soothe those self-isolation blues, and nothing feels as good as a bop that perfectly matches your mood.
In her own words, the album’s arc is “one of escapism, seeking external validation, insatiability, loneliness, shame, introspection, then eventual empowerment, acceptance, and learning to be in the present moment.” Essentially, your average day in quarantine. JoJo covers a lot of emotional ground on Good to Know, and there’s a song for every quarantine mood. Drank one too many glasses of wine last night? Turn up “Pedialyte” while you brew coffee. Had a day working from home? Blast “Man” while you dance it out.
At this stage of quarantine, sometimes all you can do is turn on a pop song and keep track of whatever else keeps you sane. Here are some that are working for JoJo—her fave things to do, eat, and watch these days.
The dish I always love to cook
Homemade cookies!!! I make them vegan by substituting in coconut oil. You can’t go wrong with chocolate chip or peanut butter.
The app that’s getting me through quarantine
Since we are all living the quarantine life, I’m so thankful for Instagram, which helps me connect with friends and fans on IG Live. Zoom is also great for group chats with family and friends!

David Ritz’s amazing biography of Aretha Franklin gives so much insight into her life and totally blew me away. I listened to it as an audiobook.
The last thing I bought
I refilled my vitamins on Amazon because I’m running out. Every day I take a probiotic, along with magnesium, vitamin D, liposomal, vitamin C, and turmeric. These are all essentials, faves for sure!!!
The niftiest life-hack I own
I love a good candle wick cutter! I used to set off the smoke alarm at home from lighting candles with older wicks, but with this gadget, problem solved.
My fave feel-good song
“Ass Like That” by Victoria Monet makes me feel sexy and fly. She’s one of my favorite writers, and her lyrics are clever: “It’s an asset just to see the way my ass sit like this.”
The self-care product that soothes me
I love a good jade roller to stimulate blood flow to my face and help beauty products penetrate deeper into my skin. Also, it just feels good! I tend to tense up my face, and a jade roller helps release some of that tension.
The beauty secret my mom taught me
My mom taught me to pluck my own eyebrows and to take eye makeup off with baby oil. I still do both to this day.
My favorite fashion trend from the 2000s
Making a DIY midriff top by tying a shirt up under your bra.
