The Met Gala 2022's fashion is the main draw, but it's the makeup looks that will be the main—and most accessible—takeaway. The theme of this year's gala is gilded glamour, and the attendees did not disappoint, going for full-on period drama and romantic aesthetics. That means bright blush, bold lips, dewy skin, and plenty of highlighter.
But not all looks are created equal, so we picked the best—and boldest—looks that we'll be talking about for some time and that you can easily replicate yourself. From Kaia Gerber's shimmering shadow to Maude Apatow's vampy lips, these are the best makeup looks from the Met Gala 2022.
Blake Lively
The secret to Blake Lively's red-carpet glow? A brand-new Charlotte Tilbury bronzer, which launches May 19. The rest of her look, created by makeup artist Kristofer Buckle, was created with Charlotte Tilbury products that are currently available, like the Collagen Superfusion Facial Oil, Luxury Palette of Pops in Pillow Talk, and Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk Medium.
Kaia Gerber
Obviously, the emphasis here is on the hair. But Gerber’s shimmering shadow—the blend of peach and violet is so unexpected—and gorgeous full brows also deserve some major recognition.
Normani
Absolutely here for the bold eyes, bold blush combo.
Nicola Coughlan
Coughlan looks so pretty in an all-pink look, courtesy of makeup artist Neil Young for Pat McGrath Labs. Her eye shadow is a mix of shades from the Pat McGrath Labs x Bridgerton Diamond of the First Water palette (fitting), and that pretty blush is the shades Aphrodisia and Budding Romance from the Bridgerton Cheek Palette.
Maude Apatow
We're used to seeing Apatow in more natural-looking makeup, but we're living for this vampy limp moment. The pink flushed cheeks add such a pretty and unexpected touch. “For this year’s Met Gala, Maude is wearing a stunning Miu Miu dress, donning a fabulous Cartier diamond choker, and a gorgeous, structured hairstyle,” says makeup artist Kelsey Deenihan, who used Armani Beauty. “We wanted the makeup to complement these, so we went with a clean, classic glam that highlights Maude’s beautiful features and added a jeweled-tone lip to play off of the lavish dresses and jewels of the time. We also added a heavily flushed cheek as a nod to the Gilded Age.” Her skin was prepped with Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Hyaluronate Serum and Barrier+ Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream for a smooth base.
Janelle Monáe
Monáe stuck to her classic combo of red lips and a crisp winged liner, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
Dove Cameron
Consider these futuristic pearls the evolution of the Euphoria eye gem. And for that glowing skin, makeup artist Kale Teter prepped Dove using Lancer Skincare.
Tessa Thompson
We're always here for a major blush moment, especially when it matches the eyes and cheeks.
Emma Chamberlain
There is so much to love about this look created by Kelsey Deenihan Fisher using BareMinerals. From the electric gold shadow (the shade Golden from the Mineralist Treasured Eyeshadow Palette) to the pretty flushed blush (Gen Nude Blonzer in Kiss of Rose), we're completely obsessed.
Winnie Harlow
Calling it now, spiky lashes are going to be a major trend for the rest of 2022. “The look was all about the exaggerated liner and spiky lashes, so we kept everything tonal, sculpted, and glowing,” said Harlow's makeup artist Adam Burrell, who used a full face of Lancôme. Highlights include the Hypnôse 5-Color Eyeshadow Palette in Bronze Absolu for that sculpted eye, and L'Absolu Rouge Cream Lipstick in Tendre Mirage.
Kiki Layne
So much yes.
Janicza Bravo
There is something about the blue eye shadow and red lipstick mix that is so classic yet fresh. Paired with this headdress, it's a lot of look, but it would look just as good with a simple little black dress.
