What is the biggest trend in coats for 2026? Ask Miley Cyrus, who rolled through the 2026 Grammys wearing the hottest thing in outerwear this winter and spring: a jacket with a nipped-in waist.
The “Flowers” singer strolled down the red carpet looking effortlessly cool (as per) in a Céline ensemble pairing pleated tapered black pants, a crisp white shirt, and the most incredible leather jacket you’ve ever seen with a waist-cinching belt tied in the middle.
Cyrus’s fiancé, Maxx Morando, who walked the carpet with the pop star, was slightly more casual. He also wore black, but instead of a trendy leather jacket and oversized gold brooch, Morano wore a basic black T-shirt with his black dress pants and dark sunglasses.
We wouldn’t be doing our professional duty if we didn’t take a moment for the accessories, of course. Cyrus also wore leather driving gloves, in keeping with the whole fashion biker vibe, and oversized sunglasses. On the front of the jacket, which also featured puffed sleeves and gold hardware, she wore a large and elaborate gold brooch shaped like a wreath and adorned with her initials.
But back to coats. Loose and roomy styles aren’t going anywhere, don’t worry. But we have also been seeing a lot more belted jackets and jackets with cinched waists lately, which tells us that the most popular outerwear of 2026 is probably going to have a little shape to it. Luckily, this look can also be achieved without buying anything new. Adding a belt—any belt—to a coat or jacket is a sure way to update the look.
