Miley Cyrus knows she showed up to the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards looking a bit like her famed alter ego, Hannah Montana. “You see the bangs,” the 33-year-old singer teased Variety's Marc Malkin when asked about her plans for the Disney Channel show's upcoming 20th anniversary. That is, honestly, the best possible answer she could give.
On January 4, Cyrus was the Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award for her new song “Dream As One,” which was featured in James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash. For the special occasion, she dressed as every bit the rockstar she is in a black Tom Ford suit with a risqué, plunging neckline, though her hair paid homage to a certain teen pop diva.
To get the best of both worlds, Cyrus wore her blonde hair down in loose, tousled waves, à la her old look from the Disney Channel series, which first premiered in March 2006 and ran until January 2011. Of course, Hannah Montana's platinum hair was meant to look like the wig that it was, while Cyrus opted for a more natural-looking honey blonde, seemingly roughing up the waves with some texturizing spray. As for the famous bangs in question, Cyrus gave the blunt fringe a modern upgrade with face-framing curtain bangs.
Of course, Cyrus' reference to her bangs wasn't her only response to Variety's question about the March milestone, though she was pretty tight-lipped about the actual plans for the 20th anniversary celebration. “We're working hard on ‘em,” she said on the red carpet, while still rocking her Tom Ford sunglasses. Aside from the coy nod to her bangs, that's all she would say on the subject.
Whatever the project may entail, it's clear Miley Cyrus is taking the “Hannah-versary” very seriously. “I want the fans to really feel seen," she recently told Rolling Stone in December. "They know that I appreciate them, but I also see like their growth. Because I have these moments all the time where people celebrate my evolution, but I see theirs as much as they see mine.”
