Meghan Markle and Prince Harry revealed the name of their son on Wednesday, May 8: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. Naturally, the modern-sounding moniker came as a surprise to the world—but it really shouldn't. After all, Prince George gave it away months ago.
What am I talking about, you ask? Well, in January, a woman opened up to the Daily Mail about how she ran into Prince George while walking her dog, and he told her the nickname he has for himself. Any guesses as to what it is? Yup, Archie!
"Just to be friendly, I engaged in a bit of small talk, and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it," the woman told the Daily Mail. "To my astonishment, he said, 'I'm called Archie,' with a big smile on his face. I don't know why he calls himself Archie, but kids often play with their names, and I think it's lovely."
So is this a coincidence, or was Prince George trying to low-key tell us Baby Sussex's name? It's most likely the former, seeing as how Prince Harry told the press on Monday—shortly after Markle gave birth—that they were "still thinking" about names. Maybe Prince George overheard his aunt and uncle discussing name options back in January and took his favorite one. Either way, it makes for a great story.

It's been a busy day for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who did a photo call this morning for their baby boy and fielded questions from press.
"It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing," Markle said. "I have the best two guys in the world, so I’m really happy."

Prince Harry added, "It’s been great. Parenting is amazing. It has only been, what, two and a half, three days…. We are just so thrilled to have our own bundle of joy and to be able to spend some precious time as he slowly starts to grow up."

Congratulations have also rolled in from Kate Middleton and Prince William. "So it's really exciting for both of them," Middleton told Hello! magazine. "And I'm wishing them the best in these next few weeks. It's always a bit daunting the first time around." Meanwhile, Prince William joked, "I'm very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep-deprivation society that is parenting."
Fans on Twitter are having a field day with Baby Sussex's name, comparing it to the popular Riverdale character Archie Andrews and Gossip Girl's Nate Archibald. I really do hope Markle drew inspiration from those icons, TBH.
