Rihanna and the Met Gala go together like Michaelangelo and paint—like fruit and ocean water. So I was as disappointed as anyone when I realized that the Queen of the Met steps would not be attending Monday evening’s annual event.
Sure, she had a decent excuse (she’s very pregnant at the moment). I won’t hold it against her, if only because she’s served look after look in the months since announcing her pregnancy.
But wait…what’s this? Rihanna at the Met Gala—in marble? Er, kind of.
Late Monday night, the singer shared a video to Instagram of digitally created statue in her likeness showcased amongst other invaluable works of art.
“Shut down the Met in marble!” she wrote in the caption of a video showing her pregnant form forever preserved in (digital) stone. “What’s more gilded than that?”

“Thank you @metmuseum and @voguemagazine for this historic tribute!” she went on. “Y’all bad for this one!”
Vogue provided further details on Instagram, writing, “‘Eirene (The Personification of Peace)’ is usually the highest-profile marble goddess @themetmuseum Greco-Roman galleries. But now we’ve got @badgalriri.”
The faux statue is modeled after Rihanna’s Vogue cover, in which she wears an Alaïa bodysuit and glove, which highlight her pregnant form.
It’ll take hard work to top this, but if anyone can outdo a marble statue, it’s Rihanna.
