Rihanna didn’t invent the concept of maternity style, but sometimes it sure feels like she did.
From body jewelry and ripped jeans to bodysuits with cutouts, the recording artist, billionaire, and mom has been amping up her personal style ever since announcing her first pregnancy in early 2022. In 2023 she revealed her second pregnancy while performing at the Super Bowl halftime show, and she's continued to innovate pregnancy style ever since. I mean, she just announced her third pregnancy at the 2025 Met Gala and is already delivering looks.
“I’m enjoying not having to worry about covering up my tummy. If I feel a little chubby, it’s like, whatever! It’s a baby,” Rihanna told People about her approach to maternity style in February 2022. “Right now, being pregnant, some days you just feel like, ‘Ugh, I just want to lay here on this couch all day.’ But when you put on a little face and a little lipstick, you transform. You put some clothes on, and it’s like, when you look good, you feel good. I’ve heard that for a very long time, but it’s true. It really can get you up off that couch and make you feel like a bad bitch.”
And no one’s a badder bitch than Rihanna. For years now the “Diamonds” singer has been turning heads with looks that are covetable whether you’re pregnant or not. Here are our favorite Rihanna maternity-style moments.
2021–2022: First Pregnancy
Before Rihanna announced that she was expecting a mini Fenty-Mayers for the first time, she did what many Hollywood women do when hiding their baby bumps: She wore several large coats. Even after the announcement, the Fenty Beauty founder stayed in oversized layers.
Rihanna indicated that her maternity style would be like no other when she broke the news of her first pregnancy in February 2022. She wore baggy, distressed jeans with exaggerated hems and a puffy, bright pink winter coat worn as a top. She buttoned the coat at the top, which revealed her pregnant belly draped in large jewelry. Following the announcement, all bets were off. For the most part, Rihanna was uninterested in covering up her bump, instead opting to draw focus with strappy, lace-up tops, shredded ’fits, and alllllll the cutouts. Here’s one look Rihanna wore to the Fenty Beauty Universe Event in February in 2022.
The glittery ensemble by The Attico is even more dramatic from the side. She paired the backless, shredded green halter top with pink shredded pants.
Rihanna sported this red-hot look just in time for Valentine’s Day. Matching her eyeliner to her outfit is becoming her signature.
If you’re going to do Milan Fashion Week, you need to do Milan Fashion Week. By February 25, 2022, Queen Rih had already wowed fans with belly-baring and daring ensembles, but she gave herself the crown she deserves at the Gucci fashion show, adding a mirrorball headdress to this dramatic look.
Just like crop tops, minidresses are a staple of Rihanna’s maternity style. She changed into a sheer black Gucci dress with a keyhole cutout immediately after the Milan fashion show.
During Paris Fashion Week, RiRi consistently showed up and off, this time in an all-peach style at the Off-White show that celebrated the late Virgil Abloh. From the mini bag to the skintight minidress, the blush shade stands out among the crowd thanks to the long shearling coat, which is a statement on its own.
For the Dior show in early March 2022, Rihanna stayed slaying in a black fishnet teddy with a lace balconette bra and an equally lacy thong. She practically kicked off the sheer gown and formal lingerie trends that swept the 2022 awards season.

When she’s not convincing her Hollywood cohorts to sport see-through gowns and bras as tops, Rihanna is also killing the dramatic-cutout trend. In early March of last year, the singer shared a photo of herself in a skintight turquoise blue bodysuit that featured a large cutout directly over her baby bump. She paired the look with matching shades and pumps, silver necklaces, and a green coat. She captioned the Instagram picture simply, “Thicc.”
She followed up this look with another cutout ensemble at the Fenty + Ulta launch in Los Angeles on March 12. Rihanna stunned in a custom silver Coperni crop top with cutouts above her chest and a low-rise glittery maxiskirt, leaving her stomach exposed and adorned with a diamond piece by Messika Paris.

Just because Rihanna knows how to make a statement at an event doesn’t mean she never chills out. On March 21, the Savage x Fenty founder posted a video to her Instagram captioned, “Taking ‘booty do’ to new levels #preggoAF.” In the photo she wears a cool graphic tee and embraced the second-coming of low-rise jeans.
On April 1, the trucker hat made another appearance, when she was photographed in Los Angeles wearing a T-shirt, jeans, sneakers, and a cool windbreaker.
2023: Second Pregnancy
Announcing a pregnancy while performing onstage is icon behavior, full stop. But announcing the a pregnancy during the most-watched sporting event in America? God tier.
Rihanna dropped the news while wearing a custom Alaïa coat and a Loewe jumpsuit with a glossy bustier.
Rihanna hit the red carpet at the 2023 Oscars in a sheer chocolate brown Maison Margiela gown with a leather bustier and skirt. For her performance the singer slipped into a stunning two-piece beaded ensemble reminiscent of a fireworks show finale.
Just when you thought you’ve seen every version of denim-on-denim the world has to offer. RiRi wore Y/Project at CinemaCon 2023 in April, where it was announced that she’ll voice the character Smurfette in a forthcoming Smurfs movie.
For the 2023 Met Gala, which honored longtime Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld, Rihanna wore all-white Valentino. Her fitted gown accentuated her baby bump, and she played with volume by pairing the dress with a cape adorned in rosettes.
Following the Met Gala, Rihanna wore a stunning bump-baring skirt, unbuttoned to expose a little leg.
In an ad for Savage x Fenty, Rihanna invented sexy corporatecore. As she put it on Instagram, this look is definitely an “HR violation.”
For a May date night in New York City, Rihanna wore a faux-fur crop top with a matching long coat and a leather miniskirt.

2025: Third Pregnancy
There were rumors that Rihanna might show up to the Met Gala red carpet showing off a baby bump, but even she surprised everyone when she entered The Carlyle Hotel in a full light grey Miu Miu set with a bejeweled necklace and jewels. Only Rihanna would reveal her baby bump with no announcement and still make waves.
As for the night’s main event, Rihanna showed up to the Met Gala in a Marc Jacobs number that fully accentuated her freshly announced baby bump.
Since her first pregnancy with Riot, Rihanna continues to pioneer pregnancy fashion for expecting mothers. For the Met Gala after-party, Rihanna stepped out in an all-black sexy slip skirt with black lace Louboutins.
