The Tatcha Silk Sunscreen Gives Me Smoothest SPF Application

It's like a blurring primer.

I take a skin-first approach with my beauty routine, and over the years I’ve developed a soft spot for SPF-infused products. Not all make it onto my top shelf for daily use, but the Tatcha Silk Sunscreen immediately did, thanks to its ability to deliver the ultimate dewy glow and SPF 50 protection.

It’s housed in a little purple bottle (that you need to shake well before squeezing out the product) with a shape that’s different from any of the other Tatcha products I’ve tried, which typically come in glass jars, like The Essence, or in tall, slender tubes, like The Rice Wash. Rose Sparacio, VP of product innovation at Tatcha, explains that this design choice was intentional: “We wanted the bottle to easily fit in your purse ord even your back pocket, so you can take it with you anywhere.”

Because of its lightweight, hydrating finish, Tatcha’s new sunscreen is the perfect primer for layering with foundation or full-coverage concealer. Not only are you getting high SPF protection, but the infusion of skin-care ingredients helps your products blend better for a flawless application. The formula doesn’t cause any makeup to cake or pill—and because it’s oil-free, it’s also noncomedogenic, which makes it safe to use if you have acne-prone skin. (I have keratosis pilaris, and I’m always worried about new skin-care products irritating the little clogged pores on the side of my cheekbones—luckily this doesn’t do that for me.)

Best of all, if you’re just wearing the sunscreen on top of your regular moisturizer, I’ve found it doesn’t streak on clothing or face masks. And after washing my hands, the residue doesn’t stain my baby pink towels either for that matter—a major win in my book.

At $60, Tatcha’s Silk Sunscreen is more expensive than your typical SPF product, but it is competitively priced with the rest of the brand’s lineup. It’s worth it, though, because of how versatile it is for year-round use—both in terms of application and portability—and as I’ve come to realize with all other Tatcha products I own, a little definitely goes a long way.
