The Oscars closed out an eventful awards season, and all eyes were on the red carpet for some last bit of glamour. Many anticipated it would be a big one not just because of what celebrities would wear but because of who might walk it. Really, fans were waiting to see whether this would mark Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's big public debut. Fans knew she was in L.A., having just performed at an engagement party over the weekend, and that she had been supporting her boyfriend while on his press tour for The Favourite. But come Oscars night, Swift decided to forgo the main event and its red carpet, and instead chose to show off her outfit on her own terms—on social media.
Alwyn arrived at the Oscars alongside The Favourite costar Nicholas Hoult, but Swift joined him later on at the after-parties. On Instagram she posted a picture of herself sitting on a spiral staircase, wearing a strapless knee-length dress with iridescent fringe, before making her way to the legendary Vanity Fair event. (Because who needs the step-and-repeat?)

Her stylist, Joseph Cassell, reposted the image with the credits her fans had been waiting for. Swift's dress was by Ralph & Russo. (The look appears to be custom, or at least a slight adaptation of the fringe column silhouettes that appeared on its spring 2019 couture runway.) Her shoes were by Brian Atwood, and her jewelry was from Lorraine Schwartz.
This isn't the first time Swift took a social-first approach to reveal her party outfit: She skipped the red carpet for the BAFTAs (and the Grammys altogether), but made sure to give fans a peek at the princess-worthy Stella McCartney gown she wore that night on her social feeds.

Ralph & Russo, meanwhile, had a busy evening: The British couture label also outfitted Adriana Lima, Selma Blair, Marisa Tomei, Kathryn Newton, and Leslie Mann for the 2019 Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.
