After two and a half years, Stranger Things 5 is now only weeks away from premiering the first four episodes. (Part two, which consists of three episodes, will release on Christmas Day. The finale is set for New Year’s Eve.) “Eleven is in a warrior state,” Millie Bobby Brown told Tudum, “which is the first time you see Eleven like that at the beginning of a season. All she is thinking about is protecting her friends [and doing] whatever it takes to protect them.”
The official trailer for Stranger Things 5 was just released at the end of October. And while there are still plenty of unknowns on how the series will end, the show wastes no time in getting to the action. “I think what’s unique about this season is that it starts a little bit in chaos because our heroes ultimately lost at the end of season four,” cocreator, executive producer, writer, and director Ross Duffer told Tudum. “We usually set up their normal life and how they’re going about school, and then we introduce the supernatural element. But in this case, this season is sprinting from the start.”
Meanwhile, Dustin is in a bit of a funk, Lucas is still at Max’s bedside, and Will is still under the influence of Vecna. Leave it to Mike then to take on that leadership role to get Hawkins back to some sense of normalcy.
“They’re not experiencing normal life,” cocreator, executive producer, writer, and director Matt Duffer told Tudum. “Nothing in Hawkins is normal anymore…their movement is restricted, and there are Big Brother cameras everywhere.”
Personally, I’ve always been drawn to Stranger Things not for the visual effects and absurdly gross monsters, but for the show’s heart and emotional pull. Executive producer and director Shawn Levy says that remains central to this final season: “The emotional center remains the same. And part of the magic of this show is that even as we evolve, even as the storytelling becomes more epic, it’s always anchored in these characters that we love.”
Stranger Things 5 doesn’t premiere until Wednesday, November 26 (a.k.a. Thanksgiving Eve; note the premiere time of 8 p.m. ET, 5 p.m. PT). So in the three and a half weeks until then, there are plenty of other shows that deserve your attention.
