I’m in my 30s now, so any skin-boosting supplement that I can add to my routine is a nice plus in my book. And yes, I’ll be the first to mention that getting nutrients from whole foods in your diet should always be a priority when it comes to skin health. But when you’re juggling work, going to the gym, hanging out with friends and family, running a book club, and training for a 10K, it’s hard to prep and pack a healthy diet. This is why I started taking Collagen Co., particularly the 14-mixed-flavors package. Since taking Collagen Co., I’ve noticed a more glowy complexion and my nails feel stronger than ever. Read on for my full Collagen Co. review to see if this collagen supplement is for you.
About Collagen Co.
Collagen Co. is an Australian-based brand that sources both bovine and marine collagen. In addition to its green powders, the company’s best-selling products are the hydrolyzed collagen powders that stimulate type 1, type 2, and type 3 collagen (which mimic the most common forms found in the human body). If you’re someone who’s looking for weight-management powders, the brand is also known for their “milkshake” collagen meal replacement powders in various flavors.
I personally wanted to test collagen powders that would target skin, nail, and hair, so I tested the Collagen Co. Sachet Box, which comes with 14 packets of mixed flavors. This includes two unflavored, three passion-fruit mango (my favorite!), three strawberry watermelon, three mixed berry, and three purple grape. Each packet contains hydrolyzed bovine collagen powder (to stimulate collagen production for overall skin health), vitamin C (for skin), hyaluronic acid (to hydrate skin), and biotin (for hair) as the key ingredients. The 15 grams of collagen is made of 100% grass-fed pasture-raised bovine collagen.
My honest Collagen Co. review
My first impression of the mixed package was that it was very fun and colorful. The flavors (mentioned above) are what drove me to this product in the first place, so I was excited to try. I tested these for two weeks, taking a packet each day for 14 days. I would either plop a packet into my work bag and drink it at the office (pictured above) or take it at night in a huge mason jar (as seen in my video) as I watched Love Island. It’s been over two weeks now and I miss my collagen routine. I like the boost of hydration I get every day too.
Packets are so convenient: A typical day for me is commuting to NYC around 8 a.m., settling in at work by 9 a.m., heading to a work event or taking a workout class in the afternoon, then heading home in the evening to wind down. I’m up and down Manhattan some days, lugging around totes, gym bags, and products, so it was nice to know that I can easily pull out my jug of collagen whenever I need.
Customization: The variety of flavors in this packet was great because I got to try different levels of sweetness. The passion fruit was my favorite, and the unflavored option was great to mix with things like shakes.
Hydration: Adding this to my routine resulted in me drinking more water. I was taking the powder with 40 oz. of water on top of my regular 40 oz. of water intake, which is about 10 cups a day. This doesn’t include my water intake for the gym, so all in all I was reaching my water goal a lot easier with this supplement.
Doesn’t mix well: Mixing the powder with just a straw took a long time and it tended to get chunky, so I recommend using a milk frother. My tip is to make a giant batch right away and let it sit in the fridge to let some of the frothiness settle.
Sweetness overload: After my first taste test, my first question was “How much sugar is in this?” As someone whose taste buds lean more savory, I found certain flavors to be too sweet.
My final thoughts
I’m always open to trying new beauty treatments and skin-improvement supplements, and this Collagen Co. packet made it so easy to add to my routine. There was a noticeable difference in my complexion—my skin was radiant even on days when I skipped my skin care routine. My nails also felt stronger, which was great because I had used gel powder recently and weakened the beds. While I don’t think collagen is necessary to take unless your doctor tells you to, this was a fun, convenient way to boost hydration, and it resulted in a nice glow.
